Reporting Incidents

It is a legal requirement that any accident involving an aircraft ('boarded with the intention of flight') must be reported to the police and the Air Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB) of the Department for Transport by the quickest available means.

The AAIB and BHPA have an agreement that the BHPA will investigate hang gliding and paragliding accidents, so your legal duty is fulfilled by informing the police and the BHPA by the quickest available means.

BHPA technical staff must be informed immediately if the incident is fatal, potentially fatal, or serious. Serious incidents include unusual equipment failures as well as accidents resulting in serious injury.

BHPA Technical Officers: 0116 289 4316 (24 Hours in emergency)
BHPA Office: 0116 289 4316 or office@bhpa.co.uk
AAIB (24 hours): 01252 512299

All incidents should be reported to the BHPA as soon as possible via the online incident report form linked below, and always within 48 hours.
